M20, more often referred to as the Trifid Nebula, is located in Sagittarius, in near proximity to it's equally famous sister nebula, the Lagoon (M8). The Trifid is name for the dark lanes trisecting the brighter emission portion of the nebula. This nebula is a striking example of both an emission (red) and reflection (blue) nebula. This image was taken at Chiefland during the Spring Partyt with the 10" Newtonian. |
